OUR TECHNIQUES

We study the styles and techniques of the Byzantine and Post-Byzantine periods, but also exploit the possibilities offered by modern technology.

Portable images

The base of the image is wood, natural or not. Hollowed or carved in various designs. Cotton or linen canvas is glued to the wood.

The timeless technique of egg tempera finds application in all our portable images. Powdered paint mixed with egg yolk and vinegar, egg tempera is the “non-negotiable recipe” of all old craftsmen.

It is considered the top method, which gives shine and gloss to the colors and makes the paint clean and thin. It is an extremely solid and durable material and has rightly been described as “immortal”.

The gilding of the image is done with 24 K gold leaf using the classic polishing method.

Murals

The illustration on the wall is done either on site or on canvases in the workshop, which are then carefully pasted onto the walls of the Temple.

In both cases, the appropriate preparation of the wall is preceded depending on its condition (sanding - cleaning - priming, etc.).

The canvases used are made of pure cotton and the glues are made of excellent quality acrylics.

Our murals are varnished with acrylic odorless varnishes for better protection.
